Chairperson of the NIHR meets Czech MP, Member of the European Parliament

10 Jul 2017

As part of the visit by NIHR’s delegation to Europe, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, head of delegation, met the Czech MP, Mr. Poche, member of the European Parliament, at his office in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, reviewing the role played by the NIHR in spreading and promoting the culture of human rights and the tasks of the NIHR to follow-up the complaints of citizens and residents relating to human rights.

Chairperson of the NIHR discussed the subject of severing the diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar by the Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt, pointing out that the measures adopted by the Gulf and Arab countries against the State of Qatar fall under the framework of severing relations rather than siege.  He pointed out that the boycott is a sovereign right guaranteed by international law to protect national security from the dangers of terrorism that undermine human rights and fundamental freedoms and threaten security and stability of the region, stressing at the same time that the boycott countries considered the human side through the allocation of hotlines for joint Gulf families in recognition for the Qatari people.

HE Mr. Al-Faihani stressed that the NIHR in Bahrain, through its human rights position and being part of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), is working closely to monitor the situation with the aim to ensure non-infringement of the fundamental rights of citizens of both countries.
